Fiona Turner – RCDA in the Central Region
After 21 years working for the NHS, I am very pleased indeed to have joined the Association, with its clear vision, goals and values. My professional background is nursing, and most of my career so far has been spent working in Neuro-Rehabilitation and Disability Management in Oxford, firstly working at Ritchie Russell House and then at the Oxford Centre for Enablement. Although over the past few years I have been responsible for leadership in Nursing, focussing on standards of care, I have made it my business to champion both Spiritual Care and all aspects of Equality and Diversity.
I have three grown up children, two of whom live in Sydney. Although Australia is the land of my birth, my daughters do seem a very long way away, especially now that one of them has presented my husband and I with an adorable little grandson! Clearly, this has brought a new dimension to our interest in travelling and seeing the world!
My first task in this new job, is to get to know as many people as I can who are involved with the Asssociation, as well as the key professionals in my areas. This is no mean feat, as my patch stretches from Northamptonshire to Berkshire and across to Bedfordshire. I have now been in the RCDA post for about 5 weeks, and must say I have enjoyed every moment of it. Everyone has been so supportive, and given me such a very warm welcome. Many thanks to those I have met, and I look forward to meeting many more of you in the near future.
